PROJECT OVERVIEW
The objective of this study was to explore community perceptions of environmental impacts of the natural gas sector and provide policy makers with robust empirical evidence for developing this emerging industry. This involved implementing a household survey in Mtwara and Lindi regions in order to examine the determinants of households’ environmental perceptions, such as their economic status, their localisation, their knowledge of current natural gas development in Tanzania, etc. The outputs were expected to provide clear insights on how the stakeholders of the sector could contribute to the sustainability of local community’s livelihoods. This research will also contribute in the generation of new research hypotheses on energy use in Tanzania and the monetarisation of environmental amenities (disamenities) in the current context.
