Adam Coyne
Director
Adam is Mathematica’s Chief Administrative Officer where he is responsible for leading and managing the company’s administrative functions, including communications, human resources, IT, legal, and strategic business development. As acting director of the company’s international unit, Adam also leads Mathematica’s international work, including its coordination with EDI Global. Adam works closely with the chief executive officer and board of directors to develop corporate strategy and ensure that the company’s administrative functions are coordinated, lean, and nimble enough to address a dynamic, global market for research, data, and evidence. Before joining Mathematica in 2010, Adam was director of public affairs at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, responsible for highlighting the foundation’s goals, programmes and research to the media and other audiences.

Agape Ishabakaki
Assistant Data Processing Officer
Agape holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He joined EDI Global in 2019 as a qualitative Interviewer and was later employed as an Assistant Data Processor in 2020. In this position, Agape has acquired vast experience in socio-economic research through supporting the implementation of various projects. His responsibilities include processing and cleaning data, and applying data checks to identify inconsistencies. Through EDI Global, he has participated in projects for a range of clients including Result for Development (R4D) and UNICEF. Agape has developed his passion for data management on large scale projects using various statistical software and has become very competent using Stata and SPSS.

Alice Sumbatala
Data Processing Officer
Alice is a Data Processing Officer at EDI Global, based in Uganda. Alice holds a Masters in Human Rights and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, both from Makerere University of Kampala. Alice is highly experienced in project planning and management, concept and proposal development, data processing and validations using Stata, and using CAPI software. She has worked with a range of clients across East Africa covering a vast array of topics including policy making, climate and environment, youth empowerment and human rights. Alice is particularly interested in the use of research and development to address the Sustainable Development Goals.

Artee Gungah
Survey Analyst and Communications Support
Artee began her career at EDI Global UK in 2010 following an internship program. She currently works as a Survey Analyst and Communications Support. She is an expert in programming and testing CAPI survey tools, conducting CAPI training and providing high level technical support to our research team and clients. She also contributes to EDI Global’s communications and marketing plans. Artee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology and an MBA with Distinction, both from Buckinghamshire New University, UK. She acquired work experience in Mauritius, UK, Belgium and Bangladesh. Born and raised in Mauritius, Artee is fluent in English, French, Hindi, and Creole.

Bence Kocsis
Senior Research Officer
Bence joined EDI Global’s UK research team in March 2022. At EDI Global, Bence is overseeing the remote data collection project measuring gender-based violence project in Tanzania, partnering with the World Bank and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. He holds a Master’s in Education and International Development from the University of Cambridge. Bence has previously worked as a Senior Associate at IDinsight in India, where he led several quantitative and qualitative studies in the areas of financial inclusion, livelihoods and behavioural nudges.

Benjamin Kamukulu
Human Resources and Office Manager
Benjamin joined EDI Global in 2004 as a member of the Tanzania field team. He soon became a highly regarded member of the team having since worked in a number of roles before taking on his current role of Human Resources and Office Manager, and he also now sits on the Senior Management Team. He manages all the HR department activities, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to. He also works closely with the Finance Department to carry out employee administration. In the capacity of Office Manager, Benjamin is responsible for the day to day administration and logistical functions of the company. This instrumental role ensures the business continues to operate efficiently.

Bhoke Munanka
Project Coordinator
Bhoke holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Science and Conservation and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) both from the University of Dar es Salaam. For her Master’s degree dissertation, Bhoke’s research focused on the effectiveness of Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) in monitoring and development of small and medium enterprises in Tanzania. Prior to her current role, Bhoke worked as a research assistant, collecting data for a study that focused on a biodiversity assessment in the Eastern Arc Mountains and coastal forests on behalf of the AfriBugs Environmental Consultancy from South Africa. As a Project Coordinator at EDI Global, Bhoke applies her experience in evaluation, development and monitoring studies to her role. Bhoke has supervised and coordinated a number of EDI Global projects for international donor agencies and national governments including the World Bank and UNICEF.

Chobaliko Saddy
Finance Manager
Chobaliko holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Accounting and Finance from Mzumbe University, Tanzania. in 2016 Chobaliko was accredited by the Tanzania National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) as a Certified Public Accountant. Chobaliko originally joined EDI Global through an internship program in 2012, in partial fulfilment of the requirement for the degree he was pursuing at Mzumbe University. Due to the excellent work ethic he demonstrated during his internship, Chobaliko joined EDI Global permanently as Finance Manager Assistant after he finished his studies in 2013. Chobaliko excels within EDI Global’s finance department and is a highly-valued member of the team. He manages daily finance operations, company expenditure planning and monitoring, taxation processing and reporting, account payable management, invoicing and accounting receivable management, staff financial training and back-stopping and company insurance processing.

Chris Boyd
Managing Director
Chris Boyd is the Managing Director of EDI Global and is based in Nairobi, Kenya where he oversees the company’s operations. Chris is an experienced business leader with over 20 years’ experience in research and evaluation. Prior to joining EDI Global, Chris held the position of Director, Results and Organisational Performance at the aid-for-trade organisation TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) where he led the results and research function across 12 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. Before TMEA, Chris played a key role in the growth and development of Upper Quartile LLP before its acquisition by WYG International, and subsequently led the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) division of WYG. Chris has undertaken research and evaluation work in over 20 countries including Afghanistan, Nigeria and Ghana, with considerable experience gained in gathering high-quality data and evidence in East Africa, particularly Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.

Dan Bunter
Research Officer
Dan joined EDI Global’s UK research team in December 2019, after completing his Master’s (MSc) Impact Evaluation for International Development at the University of East Anglia. Dan leads the implementation of large-scale data collection projects in East Africa, from project conception to data delivery. He has recently led the data collection for an impact evaluation of the Waache Wasome (‘Let Them Learn’) project in Tanzania, partnering with the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago. Dan previously worked as an impact consultant for an education NGO in Eastern Sri Lanka where he oversaw the creation of a data-led child development programme in target preschools.

Edgar Mshumbusi
Junior Accounts Assistant
Edgar started working with EDI Global in 2019 on various field projects, for clients including Gatsby Africa and Twaweza, as an Interviewer where he was involved in conducting household listing, interviews, and respondent informed consent collection. In 2022 he joined the Finance Team as a Junior Accounts Assistant where he is responsible for conducting payments and processing, posting, and maintaining financial records. Edgar holds a bachelor’s degree in Banking and finance from the Institute of Finance Management (IFM) since 2015 where he acquired skills in accounting, banking and financial procedures, organizational management, business management, and managerial finance.

Ellen Cochrane
Business Development Officer
Ellen joined EDI Global’s UK office in June 2020. She works across all aspects of EDI Global’s business development activities including seeking out new opportunities across East Africa, partner and client outreach, bid coordination, early market research, and leading our marketing and communications. Ellen holds a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham, where she focused on the intersection between public administration and international development. She also has prior experience in public procurement processes, proposal writing, project review and evaluation, and grant making, and has worked in the UK, Peru, and Portugal.

Geneveva Ruhikula
Data Processing Officer
Geneveva holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Culture and Heritage from the University of Dar es Salaam, where she focused on Cultural Anthropology. She originally joined EDI Global as an interviewer in 2010 under a Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) project, then working with PACT Tanzania under the Jali Watoto project. Geneveva has since gone on to become a Data Processing Officer. She has worked on several projects for clients such as ICAP at Columbia University, Twaweza, and Results for Development (R4D). Geneveva has experience in both Uganda and Tanzania working across a range of activities including data collection, data management, field logistics and management, questionnaires design, making do files, and translation of survey tools.

Gordian Rutibi
IT Officer
Rubiti holds a Diploma in Secondary Education and an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology. He is an experienced IT Officer with over 10 years of experience in managing IT infrastructures for EDI Global including desktop, laptops, android tablets and providing network support. Rubiti has significant expertise in managing Windows and Android operating systems as well as in hardware trouble shooting and repair. Rubiti is a valuable member of the team, and his work ensures field schedules are not hindered by technical challenges.

Greyson Mukulasi
Assistant Data Processing Officer
Greyson joined EDI Global in 2012 as an Interviewer for the Impact Evaluation of the Scaling-up Sanitation and Handwashing project in Tanzania, implemented on behalf of the World Bank. He attained his studies on Early Childhood Development in Uganda and has acquired significant field experience while serving as a Research Supervisor on numerous high-profile surveys for clients such as the World Bank, TWAWEZA, UNICEF, Results for Development, and Georgetown University. Greyson is currently serving as an Assistant Data Processing Officer, utilising his skills in data quality checks, data cleaning, writing do-files, as well as translations.

Ignas Mbaze
Stores Officer
Ignas holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supplies Management from the College of Business Education in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Since joining EDI Global, Ignas has held the roles of Interviewer, Assistant Research Supervisor and currently as Stores Officer. Ignas utilises his expertise in stores operations and management to carry out responsibilities which include receiving, inspecting, issuing, maintaining and keeping accurate records of assets across all departments and in the field.

Dr Johanna Choumert Nkolo
Director of Research
Johanna is a highly experienced researcher in Economics. Being of African heritage (Cameroon and Mozambique) and having broad fieldwork experience, she is dedicated to providing evidence-based research on development issues. For the past 10 years, she has specialized in environment and natural resources management in developing and emerging countries. Johanna has extensive experience in conducting academic and policy-oriented research with publications in top peer-reviewed economic journals. Prior to joining EDI Global, she was Associate Professor of Economics at CERDI-University of Auvergne. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Angers, a post graduate Diploma (DEA) in Environmental Economics from the Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne University and a master’s degree Diploma in International Economics from Paris Dauphine University.

Joseph Mukasa
Project Coordinator
Joseph Mukasa started working with EDI Global in Uganda in 2016 as a Field Supervisor on the Data Collection team. He is currently coordinating EDI Global’s projects and administrative errands within Uganda. Joseph holds a Diploma in Business Studies obtained from the National College of Business Studies of Kampala Uganda. He has vast experience of over 15 years in supervising data collection, data cleaning and training of Research Assistants, having worked for a longer period with Uganda Bureau of Statistics and other research entities. He has gained experience in research clearance processes both at local IRBs and at the national level.

Julius Josephat
Project Coordinator
Julius joined EDI Global in 2014 as an Interviewer after completing his undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Production and Operations Management at Mzumbe University, Tanzania. Julius has proven to be a highly-valued member of the team. He served as a Research Supervisor and Data Processing Officer before becoming Project Coordinator in 2017. In his current role he is involved throughout the duration of a project’s lifecycle and is responsible for conducting training, preparing internal project budgets, and organizing project logistics.

Kenneth Kinyambo
Project Coordinator
Kenneth holds Master’s Degree in Sociology from St. Augustine University of Tanzania, he joined EDI Global in 2014 and has since worked in number of roles from Interviewer, Research Supervisor and currently as Assistant Project Coordinator. Kenneth has extensive experience in coordinating and supervising large scale surveys. His previous project experience has enabled him to develop skills in training, facilitation, supervision, social project planning and financial management. Kenneth has coordinated projects on behalf of clients such as International Fund for Agricultural Development, NORC at the University of Chicago, the World Bank, Mathematica Policy Research, Twaweza and the Tanzania Government (PO-RALG).

Luz Azlor del Valle
Senior Research Officer
Luz joined EDI Global’s UK Research Team in September 2019 and holds a Masters in International Economic Consulting at Aarhus University in Denmark which focused on econometric analysis and research methods. At EDI Global, Luz is leading the design and analysis of an impact evaluation in Uganda on behalf of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and overseeing and coordinating data collection projects in Tanzania for Results for Development (R4D). Prior to joining EDI Global, Luz worked for over a year in Sierra Leone as the Research Assistant of randomised control trials (RCTs) developed by Pompeu Fabra and Northwestern universities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Sierra Leone. Previously, Luz also worked as a Research Assistant for Aarhus University and United Nations Children’s Fund in Denmark. Luz is fluent in English and Spanish.

Marie Mallet
Survey Operations Manager
Marie joined EDI Global’s Research Team in April 2016 after completing her Masters in international development economics at University of Auvergne and Centre for Studies and Research on International Development (CERDI). At EDI Global, she has led a number of large-scale impact assessments which has included evaluations for Georgetown University, World Bank, Promundo, ICAP at Columbia University and United Nations Children’s Fund. She has a particular interest in research projects involving topics related to gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, sexual and reproductive health, and intimate partner violence. Previously, Marie has worked as a project officer at the CEEA, a French state agency promoting local development and business support. She conducted a survey of companies to investigate networks within the local industrial sector. Marie is fluent in English and French.

Dr Matt Wiseman
Chief Operations Officer
Matt Wiseman is a member of our Board of Directors and plays a leading role in defining and implementing our company strategy. He also oversees our corporate compliance, financial management, and contracting activities, as well as supporting business development. Matt gained a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath and began his career supporting education activities in Tanzania in 2001. He has over two decades of international development experience, including a track record in planning and managing dozens of large research and data collection projects. He also has extensive consultancy experience in areas of grants management, HR management and project evaluation.

Mwenge Godlaid
Project Coordinator
Mwenge has over 12 years of survey experience with EDI Global. He has worked as a Project Field Coordinator, Fieldwork Supervisor and Interviewer on over 18 large scale surveys in Tanzania for a range of clients including the World Bank, Twaweza, Tanzania Social Action Fund, ICAP at Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. In his current position as Project Coordinator, his role includes the coordination of survey activities like project field internal budgeting, planning and designing of survey fieldwork, enumerators and supervisor’s trainings, field staff recruitments, and imprest monitoring. In particular, Mwenge has substantial experience in project field coordination, managing and monitoring surveys, and piloting and testing questionnaires.

Dr Nancy Murray
Director
Nancy Murray has more than 20 years of experience in international development program evaluation, education, adolescent and maternal and child health, and nutrition and the family. Murray, who joined Mathematica in 2007, was previously the deputy director for the Center for Health Solutions at Futures Group International. She has published in Studies in Family Planning, Social Biology, International Family Planning Perspectives, Vulnerable Children and Youth Studies, and Maternal and Child Nutrition. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the Johns Hopkins University and an M.P.H. and M.A. in Latin American studies, both from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Patrick Minja
Senior Data Processing Officer
Patrick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Moshi Co-operative University and joined EDI Global’s Data Processing team at the end of 2017 as an Assistant Data Processing Officer, having previously served as an Enumerator in the field. He has developed extensive skills working with different software for data collection and management including SurveyCTO, Survey Solutions, Stata, and SQL. Patrick’s role includes questionnaire configurations and writing do-files, and his experience working with data has enabled him to provide oversight and support to a wide range of EDI Global projects.

Priscar Roman
Data Processing Officer
Priscar holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Science and Conservation from the University of Dar es salaam during which she acquired skills in project planning, research and methodology, and monitoring and evaluation. She has been working with EDI Global for over 12 years, as an Interviewer for two years, as a Supervisor for four years before being promoted to Assistant Data Processing Officer. Her current role includes do-file writing, questionnaire designing, testing, training, translation, data quality control and cleaning using SurveyCTO, SurveySolutions and Stata software.

Rachel Bowers
Research Officer
Rachel joined EDI Global’s UK research team in 2022 after two and a half years working with the government National Statistical Office in Ghana. Here she led research projects which explored the use of non-traditional data sources (such as mobile phone metadata and citizen generated data) to report official statistics and to monitor national agendas such as the Sustainable Development Goals. During this time, Rachel also managed large-scale telephone surveys on gender inequalities in labour market outcomes and a panel study on the impact of COVID-19 on households and jobs. Rachel joins the team with experience working in Ghana, India, Malawi and the UK. She completed her Master’s in Impact Evaluation for International Development at the University of East Anglia.

Respichius Mitti
Regional Director
Mitti has over 18 years’ of experience in academic and professional research and has played a leading role in the development of EDI Global’s Research Department since the company’s formation. He has extensive experience of the planning, implementation and management of large scale survey assignments across Tanzania and East Africa for clients that have included the Millennium Challenge Corporation, World Bank, United Nations Children’s Fund, the University of Oxford, SNV, TWAWEZA, Tanzania Social Action Fund, and the Government of Tanzania (PO-RALG). In his roles, he technical and operations oversight to all of EDI Global’s East African activities, whilst implementing the East Africa company strategy.

Sadam Matsawili
Tanzania Country Manager
Sadam holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He joined EDI Global in 2008 as a university student intern, and was later employed as a Research Supervisor in 2012. Currently serving as an Assistant Operations Manager, Sadam oversees the day to day operations in Tanzania, as nurtured by the Country Director. He is also responsible for supporting office and field staff recruitment, research training, and field logistics. During his tenure as an Interviewer, Data Processing Officer, Research Coordinator and now an Operations Manager, Sadam has acquired vast experience in the research industry through participating on numerous world-class socio-economic surveys implemented by EDI Global for reputable clients.

Samson Stambuli
Assistant Finance Manager
Samson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in Accounting from St. Augustine University of Tanzania. In 2013 he became a Certified Public Accountant governed by the Tanzania National Board of Accountants and Auditors. He has over 7 years of experience in financial management, accounting and auditing in both national and international organisations. Over these years, he has accumulated a wealth of experience in managing and administering various complex financial issues. Samson joined EDI Global as Assistant Finance Manager at the end of April 2019. Since then he has been instrumental in assisting the Finance Manager in day to day financial operations.

Sarafina Safari
Data Processing Officer
Saraphina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Project Planning Management and Community Development. She first joined EDI Global in 2013 as a Research Officer and was later promoted to an Assistant Data Processing Officer and then a Data Processing Officer. Saraphina has worked with a wide range of clients including the World Bank, Twaweza, Overseas Development Institute, United Nations Children’s Fund, Gatsby Africa, and Georgetown University through which she has gained significant experience in research clearances and data processing with a variety of software. Her role includes electronic questionnaire configurations and testing, designing survey tools, translations, data quality control, as well as setting-up data flow and communication systems.

Sosthenes Alex
Assistant Project Coordinator
Sosthenes is an Assistant Project Coordinator who joined EDI Global as an Interviewer in 2011. He was promoted to field Supervisor and Assistant Coordinator in 2014 and 2016. In his current position his role includes the coordination of survey activities, such as project field internal budgeting, field logistics, enumerators and supervisors trainings, and field staff recruitment. Sosthenes has been engaged in various projects for clients such as the Clinton Health Access Initiatives (CHAI), Tanzania Social Action Fund, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and ICAP at the University of Columbia. Sosthenes has also worked on numerous rounds of surveys, from baseline and endline, to follow-up rounds.

Tamara Barnes
Director
Tamara Barnes serves as Mathematica’s general counsel and corporate secretary. Before joining Mathematica, Barnes served as associate general counsel, mergers and acquisitions, for American Standard Companies, Inc., and as corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions attorney at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae L.L.P., and Baker & McKenzie in New York and London. She has spent a significant portion of her career working overseas on mergers, acquisitions, and finance matters. Barnes was awarded a postgraduate fellowship sponsored by the World Bank’s Corporate and Banking Law Reform Initiative in Moscow. She received her juris doctorate in 1993 from the Sturm School of Law at the University of Denver, with honors. She was also an editor of the University of Denver Journal of International Law and Policy. She holds a bachelor of arts in history, with honors, from the University of Colorado.

Upendo Joel
Junior Accounts Assistant
Upendo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounts from St. Augustine University of Tanzania where she acquired skills in organisational management, business management, tax accounting, and managerial finance. She started working with EDI Global in 2014 as an Interviewer where she was involved in conducting household interviews. In February 2015 she joined the Finance team and since then has been involved in conducting payments processing and posting, field finances audit, maintaining financial records, field staff training on field financial management, and reporting and imprest accounts management.

Verna Watson
Bookkeeper
Verna works in the UK office as a Bookkeeper looking after the day to day financial posting into Quickbooks, covering accounts payable, sales ledger, banking and salaries. She has extensive experience in the Financial area previously working as an EMEA Financial Accountant for a large Global Software company preparing Financial Statements, Tax and VAT returns in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic, South Africa and the UK. For 14 years she worked as the Financial Reporting Accountant for a large food manufacturing company in the UK preparing monthly financial Ssatements, annual statutory consolidated accounts, tax and VAT returns.
