EDI Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mathematica, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Boyd as its new managing director. Chris joins EDI from TradeMark East Africa, where he was the director of results and organizational performance for the regional aid-for-trade organization. Chris takes over the leadership of EDI from Mike Woolford, who will retire in April 2022.
As managing director, Chris will work with Mathematica’s leadership team to build on EDI’s global reputation as a data collection organization focused in Tanzania and Uganda as it expands to include additional integrated research, evaluation, and analytics activities across Africa. As part of this strategy, Chris will continue to work from Nairobi, Kenya as Mathematica and EDI Global expand their footprint.
“Chris is a terrific addition to the EDI and Mathematica family as we continue to work with our partners to bring data, evidence, and insights to solve the most pressing global development challenges,” said Adam Coyne, acting director of international research at Mathematica. “Chris’s background as a leader in measurement, evaluation, and learning programs, as well as his commitment to strengthening our regional and field operations in East Africa and beyond, will help Mathematica follow through on our vision to shape an equitable and just world in which evidence drives decisions for global impact.”
Chris brings more than 20 years of experience in research and evaluation, serving in leadership positions at consultancies that worked with private, not-for-profit, and government clients across numerous sectors including trade, agriculture, education, energy, and climate change.
“As someone who lives and works in East Africa, EDI Global and Mathematica were a great fit for me as they’re committed to producing high-quality research and evidence which contributes to improving the lives of people in this region,” said Chris. “The depth of regional and in-country expertise that EDI and Mathematica bring to their clients and partners is one of the main reasons I was attracted to the business, and I look forward to leading EDI in the next stage of its development.”
EDI Global was founded in 2002 in Bukoba, Tanzania and works to positively impact people’s lives by providing innovative, world-class data collection and research services. After working together to implement research and data collection projects in Tanzania, EDI Global became an independent operating subsidiary of Mathematica in 2019. Together, the companies are working to bring a combination of deep sector expertise, innovative approaches, and in-field experience to provide our partners with comprehensive solutions to today’s complex development challenges.
